Dear John:
Firstly, let me say Happy Belated 15th Birthday! I was hoping to finish this post
on time, but, as you know, I am leaving to Spain, and for the past couple of days I have been
running around like a chicken without a head... And we all know that chickens without a head
just can't blog...
DARN IT!! WHERE IS MY HEAD!! :(
However, there is an upside to being late; This headless chicken saw photos of your birthday
celebration the next day on facebook... and... well, I couldn't resit "taking" one!
This photo of you, blowing the candles of that yummy-looking cake is simply too precious!
WOW! WOW! WOW!!! Who in this world would believe you were just released from the
hospital after having mayor brain surgery?
NOT ONE OUT OF THE 7 BILLION PEOPLE ON EARTH!!!
So tell your mama not to be mad at me for taking what is not mine... I just wanted this to
be a nice surprise for you! And just in case you didn't know, I don't blog just about
anyone, so...
THIS IS MY WAY OF SAYING, YOU ARE SUPER-DUPER-SPECIAL!!!
I also want to take this opportunity to thank you, because I am still smiling about your request
for tamales during your stay in the hospital... And once again, I am "taking" from facebook,
some of the comments between your mother and I... so we can someday look back and smile!
OH, MY, ALL THIS "TAKING"!
I'VE BECOME A HEADLESS-KLEPTOMANIAC- CHICKEN NOW!!
Your mother posted:
Begging God to reveal the mysteries of John's brain to Dr. Olsen today.
We are each "fearfully and wonderfully made..."

Me- Lifting John to the Lord. May the mysteries be found, so that he will be well. And may he never have to face surgery again... Anne, I would like to visit him tomorrow afternoon- please let me know what would bring a smile to his face...perhaps a particular movie, game, or book?October 27 at 10:09am ·

Your mom- Juana - John says that a tamale would make him smile :)October 27 at 10:41am ·

Me- Really, a tamale? That made ME smile! But tamales for John, it is! What kind, cheese and poblano peppers, or with meat filling? :) If he wants both.... I'll make both.October 27 at 12:23pm ·

Your mom- He says both! Bring one for me too! I guess John has happy memories of last Thanksgiving! Thank you! I will post on your wall if he goes to surgery tomorrow. Otherwise, your company will be anticipated.October 27 at 12:31pm ·
And you know, John, the phrase "I guess John has happy memories of last Thanksgiving!"got me thinking... so I searched for that day's photos, and look what I found:
Here for the record, is the moment you would be grabbing a tamale, like your sister, Beth,
and putting it on your plate! Isn't it something? Who knew you would like them so much, that
almost a year later you requested them- And I would prepare them for you, except this time
you enjoyed them in a much different place! A place where smiles are not frequently seen...
Yet you... through 3 brain surgeries in less than 2 weeks... smiled
Here with Dad Rope, sis Beth and brother- in- law Chris
smiled...
John, Chris and I
and smiled some more!!!
John, your mother describes you as strong, brave, kind, and good...
Who can disagree? No one!!
:)

I must go now. However, before I return to running around like a chicken without a head,
I want to say this; My birthday wish for you is that you have a long healthy life filled with
love, happiness and lots, lots, and lots of great moments that will make you smile...
OH, AND HOW COULD I FORGET...
(Somebody help me find my head!!)
FILLED WITH MANY MORE TAMALE-EATING DAYS!
***
P.S.
The tamale part I am currently working on right now.
They are all in the freezer- except for this particular one!
It came alive and said,
"It's never too late to wish John a Happy Birthday!!"
Then walked out of my kitchen...
It's o.k. though, there is plenty more where he came from!!
;)
