They met 15 years ago. In Ciempozuelos, Madrid. Mayra was 16 years old. Raul was 17.
My husband and I weren't thrilled about it. Mayra was just too young to be dating. We
wanted her to concentrate in studying...and this small town, soccer playing, summer
melon-picking, silly, skinny boy could get in the way. And he was suspicious too! If he
accompanied Mayra home and saw us driving up to our building, he would run like
he'd seen the devil. Of course, Pepe's menacing look and foaming mouth, every time
he saw Raul near Mayra could have something to do with it...
Nevertheless, it was true love. Nothing could stop it. Not even disgruntled parents. So
their love continued to grow...However, in 1999, things were about to change. At least Pepe
and I thought so. We were moving to the United States. That would separate them...
Funny, instead, they got engaged. Bah! Why worry... It wouldn't last once we moved!

To our surprise it did!!
Mayra and Raul, continued their relationship on the phone and on-line for FOUR years!!
Only seeing each other once a year! We kind of started liking Raul. Not that many young men
wait around that long being faithful...but true love waits. Are there any young girls reading
this? Let me repeat it. TRUE LOVE WAITS!
On April 26, 2003 this very much in love couple got married. Eight years after that
day, 15 after they have met, and two precious boys, Alberto and Gabriel, these
love birds are going strong!
