Brat: a child, esp. an annoying, spoiled, or impolite child (usually used in contempt or irritation).
Brat + airplane= Flying Brat.
My grandkids: Alberto 5, Alonso 2, and Gabriel 1.
Airplanes and kids, you'd think they go together like peanut butter and
jelly. Ha!! Not always so. Just because a child likes to play with airplanes
does not guarantee he or she will be an angel during a flight. Especially
on an overseas trip. Oh, let's not mention take off and landing
when they have to be strapped to a seat while the engines' roaring
sound is the only thing they can hear and...their ears feel like they
are going to burst!
When flying. the goal is to get from point A to point B. Hopefully safe,
sound, and without loosing our nerves to a child's meltdown. Now,
experienced flyers knows there is always a chance of a crying child
on a flight. As a matter of fact, I am one of those flyers that
when checking in, also check for how many kids will be on board!
Why? Because usually children 4 and under seem to NOT like to fly,
and cry, or throw a tantrum. Yes, they are sometimes annoying, but what
is a parent to do? Leave them home? Give them drugs to make them
sleepy? Not go visit the family? Not take the new job offer because
your child might annoy another passenger?
They are kids!! If you think a 9 hour flight is uncomfortable...
what are you expecting from a child!!
Why am I defending screaming children in airplanes? Because,
my 2 year old grandson, Alonso, was one today. He had a good trip
flying to Spain, except take off and landing. Coming back ...he was the
annoying crying child. You know I thought about him all day long..
I hoped he would give his mom and the other passengers a
pleasant flight. But he was waken up at 6 A.M., is coming down with
a cold, and didn't want to eat breakfast. A recipe for sky high disaster!
When I saw Sandra's face as she came out from arrivals, I knew
something went wrong. She looked stressed and exhausted. Alonso,
recognized me and was sweet as he can be! When I asked what
had happened, Sandra's red eyes started filling with tears and
said, "Mom, Alonso cried at take off and later I was just walking
around with him, up and down the isle...he was quiet...just
walking, and I passed by this lady that kept giving me a dirty look.
When I passed by her again she said to me, that I should spank the
shit out of my child, that he was just a spoiled brat that was
ruining everyone's flight! Mom, I didn't know what to say...I spent
part of the trip hiding in the bathroom with Alonso. But thank God
there were others that tried helping me out with him. Nine hours of
desperation...nine hours stressed out trying to keep Alonso busy!
You know...waiting for the bags I asked Sandra if the lady was there
waiting for her bags. She said yes...and I, with my dear Alonso in
my arms, headed over to where she was standing. When I asked
her how could she have said something like that to a young mother
and child she responded with a look of supremacy, "It's true, his
mother should spank the shit out of him...he is just a spoiled brat!
She should teach him some manners! It would have been best to
take him to the bathroom and stayed there until he cried it out" .
I wanted to punch her face so bad!! Alonso, was smiling at her. She
was looking at Alonso with disgust, shaking her head from side to
side..and repeated that he should have the shit spanked out of him.
I controlled my anger, and told her there was something seriously
wrong with her...she said I probably didn't know how to raise my
kids, and that's why my grandson was like that, one big spoiled
brat, while she had grandchildren that were perfectly obedient to
whatever their daddy said...that was it...I had enough...I turned
around and walked away thinking, because he spanks the shit out
of them.
As I told Sandra, who already had the bags, of my lovely conversation,
a couple turned around not believing what "Spanking Lady" had
said to me...they were in that flight also, and told us they were
frequent flyers and had many similar experiences with small children
in airplanes..not to worry, Alonso was a normal 2 year old in long...
long ...flight.
All I know is...this family we fly often. This recent photo of my
grandkids sitting on suitcases couldn't be more perfect! What a
surprise when I saw what the photographer in Spain had chosen for
the sitting!
Ahhh! "Spanking Lady"...I don't care if you think my grandkids
are FLYING BRATS. They are my grandkids, I love them and I
believe they are being raised properly.
I feel sorry for you ...you are heartless and cruel...how could
you look at a child with such disdain!! Shame on you!!
What's your opinion?
