DAY 15
SEPTEMBER 28
Casa Pepa in Santa Colomba de Somoza.
I slept like a baby last night! What a cozy room. What
an awesome bed. Pepe and I, were in heaven. If only we
could stay there a few more days...We vowed to return again
some day...But, now it was time to get going. Breakfast was
included with the stay, therefore...yum, yum, yum....I was
dying to have some fantastic coffee, and see "Casa Pepa",
with the morning light!!! Hmmmmm.....I must take the
camera with me!
Looks nice already, ha?
All authentic.....
We must come back...
After a great breakfast, and a nice chat with the owner, Pepa,
Pepe and I, headed once again to Rabanal del Camino. This
time his Aunt and cousin were there. They gave us the key to
Pepe´s grandmother´s old house. That in itself was worth
the trip to Leon. When I go back to Georgia I will post those
photos. But, today I will post the walk to the river.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two fifty year old, feeling like they were sixteen, decided
to take a walk to the river....
I said, "Pepe, please take me to the river were you went to swim
when you were a kid!".
He said, "Juani... it´s about a 2 Km walk downhill. That´s easy...
but, then we must come up hill.....Are you sure?"
We start our journey. Right outside the town...
somewhere down there, we own some land...
Pepe said, "From here, it´s all down hill...hurry!"
I said, "Yes, baby, but ...I am in awe. Let me stop and
admire this sight!!! What is this surreal ocean like path, we
are standing on?"
-"Straw", he replied.
I said, "Pepe...in case we get lost...are these edible?"
Pepe replied, "No, but these are!"
Pepe said with excitment, Ah, getting closer...but, we need
to reach the area where the tall, Black Poplars are!
There was magic in the air, as the
soft breeze, made the leaves of the
tall Poplars whisper ...
"Juani, I got a stick for you ...
it will help you walk this
area!"
"Cool!!! I always wanted to
do this...I feel like a native
of this slopes", I said while
I jumped up and down, like
a child....
- And this was the mill, Juani. There were two, actually. People
from town would come down from town to make flour from
their wheat.
-What a sight it must have been, Pepe!
I closed my eyes, took a deep breath of the wonderful, fresh,
mountain air, and imagined what life most have been like back
when Rabanal was still a busy town, full of life....
"Look, Juani, right here was my favorite spot...but the river
was wider then...."
Still a pretty sight...but, I can imagine it even more beautiful 32
years ago....
So peaceful...
Awwww....I said, do we really have to go back. YOU DO know
how to go back, right Pepe?
Gasp..."Pepe! We are lost....aren´t we?"
"Juani, I found the way!!! I can see the town
from here, yay!!!"
Then we heard a tractor...and found the path to town!
ALL IS WELL ....THAT ENDS WELL
As we walked back, I said, "I got a little worried back there, honey,....
Thank goodness there are no wolves in the area any more!"
Pepe replied, "Well....there are no more wolves, because there are
hardly any sheep in the area...But, what I was worried about, and didn´t
tell you is ...there are plenty of...WILD BOARS!"
