* Please, take the time to comment for Alonso...we will print
and
add to his birthday album! Thank you!!!
My dear Alonso, it seems like yesterday we were
celebrating your birth, and here we are today...
with 2 candles on your cake!
My Lovable Grandson Alonso:
Did you know, my little boy, you hold a very special place in my heart?
Your are so precious to me. You are Yaya Juani and Yayo Pepe's "grandson-son".
That means, Alonso, we know you belong to Mommy Sandra, but you are
like a son to us, and that makes you extra, extra, extra special!!
And, so is your story...
One cold winter's day in January 2008...just three days before your Uncle Chris
and Aunt Beth's wedding, as everyone in the family was scrambling about with
last minute shopping... a cold wind blew from the North with news of your
future arrival, leaving your old fashioned grandparents shivering, wondering,
dumb founded in the cold.
As the days passed it got even colder. It snowed. The winds picked up speed.
They were strong...dangerous...damaging. Hazardous weather was ahead.
The wind driven snow reduced visibility and Yaya and Yayo , Mommy Sandra
and Daddy Gabriel, were hoping to find their way out of that blustery
cold weather! But we could not see....Where was the Sun?
One day, Yaya and Yayo, in need of a ray of light, decided to make a visit
to Father Jaime, who knew a lot about how to find it. He prayed and told us
we already had the light...we just didn't see it, or feel it's warmth...yet. As we
went home the wind started to loose strength and eventually all was calm.
Spring was about to make it's yearly visit....and you grew as the new leaves
in the trees...the grass became green again...and we all welcomed the warmth
of Spring!
Four months passed. By now we were happy and hoping for Summer to come
so we could meet you...but the wind made another visit. This time it
brought sadness. Mommy Sandra had complications...and the wind picked
up more and more speed! It blew so hard it turned into a tornado that
swept us off our feet!!! Oh, my Alonso, the rest of Mommy's pregnancy we
spent it hanging on to each other as we twirled in the air...wondering
where or when we would land safely...and praying that you would be born
a strong and healthy baby boy!!! The tornado dropped us off dazed and
confused...waiting for Summer to arrive.
Then, on August 22, your Mommy woke me up early...I mean real early, and
told me we were about to have a "son-ny" day! We timed the contractions....
hmmmmm....hmmmmm...every 7 minutes? Yikes....time to call Dr. Fountain
and rush to Gwinnett Medical Center, where your cousin Alberto was born!!!
However, this time we knew for sure Dr. Fountain would be there...and not
the infamous Dr. Villanueva, who Yaya ...really, really, really, really, really,
disliked for being late to Alberto's birth and causing him complications!!!
All was going well. Mommy Sandra was being brave and chose a natural
delivery. After many hours of close contractions and 5 cm dilated...she
was officially in labor. As we were ready to move to another room, I asked
the nurse, "Have you nonitified Dr. Fountain?" and she responded, "Oh, this
baby will not be delivered by Dr. Fountain! It will be delivered by Dr. Villanueva!".
I felt a huge black cloud, with lighting and thunder just above my head.
"But, no! Dr. Fountain was scheduled today. IT CAN'T BE DR. VILLANUEVA!
There is an error. Please, call Dr. Fountain and let us know." I thought...
how can this be? Again? And I paced up and down the hallway with the heavy,
dark, cloud above my head storming. Mommy was out of it...concentrated
in breathing as Daddy helped her...BUT, your Yayo and Aunt Mayra knew
what was coming...Yaya's furious fight against the forces of nature,
for a well deserved, peaceful and secure delivery for her daughter and grandson!
The hospital didn't know what hit them....if it wasn't Dr. Fountain, then someone
else...anyone but Dr. Villanueva. I wanted to be at peace. I needed someone
I could trust! I was told over and over again ...NOTHING COULD BE DONE!
As my family asked me to give in and accept the fact ...I said, "I am going
to his office and ask personally!" ...your Aunt Mayra said, "But mom!!! Sandra
can deliver at any time!!! You need to be here!!!" I shook my head..my mind
was set and asked Yayo to come along with me. Pale as a ghost, wondering
what Yaya would say or do...he drove to the nearby office, where Yaya
rushed in to ask why Dr. Fountain would not be delivering our baby. I pleaded
with the office manager....exposing our reasons. She would be delivering soon
I knew it...probably within an hour and a half. The lady looked at me like I
was crazy. I was not a nurse or a Doctor! Don't ask me baby...but, Yaya
always knows these things. I had to get your Mommy on the phone and have
her ask for him to assist her...I ran out of breath pleading and a monsoon
broke loose from the dark cloud above Yaya's head as she was told by the
office manager, "I will let him know ...but I can't promise anything". I walked
away drenched by the monsoon rain and walking in a puddle of water that
tagged along with me...
Back at the hospital I accepted it was in God's hands now. I did what I had to
do...now it was time to calm down and accept that Dr. Villanueva could make
up for what he did wrong the last time. It was resignation time.
An hour passed and you were very close...I asked a nurse to come and
check Mommy. I knew you were near, and just as Yaya thought it was time!!!
I asked the nurse calmly, "Has Dr. Villanueva been informed? Is he here at the
hospital?" and she responded with a smile..."Oh, this baby won't be delivered
by Dr. Villanueva! He will be delivered by Dr. Fountain!". The skies opened
wide and a blast of light came through the door as Dr. Fountain smiled and
stood there. OH, my hero....a knight in shining armour!!!
He checked Mommy and he had to rush against time...the room was filled with
nurses moving tables...bringing out the lamps....everything needed to welcome
you to this world! Dr. Fountain getting dressed in a hurry was a sight...A warm
delightful breeze was filling up the room. And then ...Mommy pushed...one,
two, three!!! Your little head was out and you started crying...crying!!!
Dr. Fountain was so surprised! "This child is very special! He is crying already?"
He hurried cleaning your little face and you kept crying strong and loud ...
you wanted to be free!!! Then one more push....and you were officially with
us!!! JOY!!! JOY!!! The sun was shining bright at 6:02 in the afternoon! What
a beautiful 7lb 2oz baby boy!!!
Dr. Fountain held you and showed you off. Then he sang Happy Birthday to you.
I cried...we all did...That's how it's supposed to be...That's what I wished for
your Mommy and you. Something special. Then, because you couldn't talk
you asked Dr. Fountain, to take you to meet your Mommy by peeing all over
his face!!! The room was filled with laughter...especially Dr. Fountain's who
thought you were in a real hurry to speak your mind in this new world! He gave
you and Mommy Sandra a kiss and had to leave...he had a family event to go to.
And, with a big smile he left the room, as we continued our celebration of
life and light!!!
Two years later we are still celebrating because you have brought warmth,
sunshine, laughter and joy...but, above all you have brought so much love!!!
With your smile, Alonso, you chase the clouds away!!!
I love you with all my heart...my grandson-son!!!
